I didn’t mean to walk as far as I did today, but the walking was so bloody glorious that it was a bit addictive. I’d finished yesterday fairly early on, a bit grumpy with having to walk along the road. But refreshed from a night (and a lot of sleep) in the lovely little casa rural, I enjoyed my early morning tour through the series of interwoven villages that lead you to the start of the climb up – and out – of Spain’s largest region (Castilla y León) and into Galicia.

The guide book warns of steep ascents and descents in the section I walked today, but anyone who has walked the South West Coast Path would laugh at their idea of steep. This was so easy in comparison. The weather was perfect – clear and sunny, warm (once the sun properly got going) but with a cooling breeze. And wow… it was beautiful. I felt a real sense of privilege to be out walking in those surroundings, and in such perfect conditions, today. In fact, the biggest problem I’ve got is whittling down the photos I put on my blog to just three. One of the very best days of walking I’ve ever had 😁😁😁

About silkakt

I'm a map addict. I nip out in my lunch break to go to the National Map Centre, just around the corner from where I work, to feed my habit. My fix normally costs £7.99 and comes in the form of an OS map, although I'm a big fan of Sustrans cycle maps, the Trailblazer walking guides and maps of the world too. And once I've got my new map, I start plotting - routes, adventures and an escape away from the office that I spend too much time in. Maps, quite simply, make the world a better and more exciting place.

Thank you! It’s lovely to know you’re still following me and that you’re all still out there walking too. I’m considering walking the Portuguese route – would you recommend it?
