NYC to Florida – Day 22

(picture: cycle lane in Georgia. Rare in itself, but what on earth is this cyclist wearing on its head?)

Date: 15 May 2011
Woke up in: Savannah, Georgia
Fell asleep in: Darien, Georgia
Miles ridden today: 65
Total miles ridden so far: 1,259
Weather: Not quite as hot – phew!

I really wasn’t in the mood for a bike ride today, even after our day off yesterday. This is a worrying development, as I’m usually full of beans after a day off the bikes. This bit’s all just a bit ‘samey’ – plus my knees and wrists hurt. Non-cyclists may be surprised that it’s my wrists that hurt, but they can take a real battering on long-distance bike rides and mine are really quite painful at the moment.

Today was a long-ish, dull day, but at least the ride out of Savannah wasn’t hectic and it was a low traffic day. The most exciting thing that happened was that we got our first puncture of the trip; well, Will’s bike did. He fixed it super-quick and we were on our way again, but it seems remarkable that we’ve got so far into the trip before getting one!

Sorry this blog entry is so uninspired, but it felt like a dull day and that’s reflected here!

About silkakt

I love to explore countries on foot or by bicycle. An English woman, I moved to the south of Spain in September 2020 and I have dreams of encouraging more people to discover this amazing country by walking its various Camino routes. To date, I've walked the French Camino from St Jean in France, the Portuguese Camino from Lisbon (interior route, not coastal) and the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo. I have also walked a fair few long distance trails in the UK, including all of the National Trails in England and Wales, and a couple of long walks in beautiful Scotland.

Not only a puncture – it exposed a worrying amount of bright red ‘wear warning’ rubber in my tyre… Eek…
