NYC to Florida – Day 17

NYC to Florida – Day 17

Date: 7 May 2011
Woke up in: Wilmington, North Carolina
Fell asleep in: Kure Beach, North Carolina
Miles ridden today: 24.5
Total miles ridden so far: 899.5
Weather: Hot. So we went to the beach…

We really weren’t in the mood for cycling today. We fantasised about staying an extra day in Wilmington, but eventually managed to drag our reluctant selves out of bed and onto the bikes.

Twenty four perfectly pleasant miles later, we crumbled as we cycled through Kure Beach. It looked kitsch, it was hot, it was sunny, there was a great looking beach and lots of motels. We didn’t pedal an inch further. And we got to spot rednecks to our hearts’ content. There were a lot to spot…

About silkakt

I love to explore countries on foot or by bicycle. An English woman, I moved to the south of Spain in September 2020 and I have dreams of encouraging more people to discover this amazing country by walking its various Camino routes. To date, I've walked the French Camino from St Jean in France, the Portuguese Camino from Lisbon (interior route, not coastal) and the Camino Primitivo from Oviedo. I have also walked a fair few long distance trails in the UK, including all of the National Trails in England and Wales, and a couple of long walks in beautiful Scotland.
