Woke up in: Manhatten, NYC
Fell asleep in: Bridgewater, New Jersey
Miles ridden: 0
Weather: Horrendous! Torrential rain, winds, thunder, lightening…
We were due to start our bike ride to Florida today. Unfortunately we failed to take into account;
A) Just how long it would take to get us to the store in New Jersey where we were picking up the bicycles and most of our equipment;
B) Just how long it would take to sort out the picking up of the bikes and most of our equipment.
This meant by the time we were ready to go anywhere, it was 4.30pm. We’d a hotel booked but there was no way we’d be able to cycle the 38 miles we needed to do to get to it while it was still light. Plus the rainstorm to end all rainstorms had started at noon (and writing this 12 hours later, it’s still going on).
So, the long and the short of it is that we’re starting tomorrow. It’s going to take us 32 miles of cycling to get to the start of the ‘official route’ we’re doing so we’ll still be cycling every one – and probably more – of those 1,800 miles during the next five to six weeks. Oh, and the weather forecast for tomorrow is also delightful: high winds, some more rain, temperatures that are significantly below what they are supposed to be at this time of year, and flooding, from all of today’s rain: glorious!
On the plus side, I’ve come up with a name for my beautiful new bicycle; Nora!
Good luck guys! Brett wants to see a pic of your bikes please… K x x
Thanks – the first couple of weeks will be hard work. I’ll try and get some decent photos of the bikes for him!
